How to change Ubuntu gdm login resolution on a macbook

After installing ubuntu 19.10 on my macbook, I changed the resolution to 2560×1600 and scaling to 100% instead of the default 200%.

Ubuntu supports very well the retina screen but the login screen was still at the old resolution after reboot.

To have the same resolution during the login with gdm you need to copy the monitors.xml file from your personal config to the /var/lib/gdm3/.config folder:

cd;sudo cp .config/monitors.xml /var/lib/gdm3/.config/

The content of my monitors.xml file is:

<monitors version="2">
          <product>Color LCD</product>

On next login after reboot the solution will be the same as it is during the gnome session.

docker does not run on fedora 31

When installing docker-ce on fedora 31 it does not work out of the box as Fedora 31 uses cgroups v2 by default and docker doesn’t yet support cgroupsv2.

To solve this, edit grub config:

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

Add the parameter systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0 to the line starting by GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX

Now update grub by running:

And reboot the system.

Plex error s4032 with firefox and fedora 31

After installing Fedora 31 I had some issues playing movies from Plex with the following error message:

plex error s4032 (manifest)

I solved the issue buy activating the RPM Fusion repositories:

sudo dnf install{free/fedora/rpmfusion-free,nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree}-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm

and installing ffmpeg compat libs:

sudo dnf install compat-ffmpeg28 ffmpeg-libs
